Born above a bookshop, barely born, but by George he was.
Not a single teardrop hit the floor, and they feared the worst.
The worst didn't happen, but neither did the best.
He was left with scars never to forget
because the Queen couldn't cure his disease of the neck
and Nathaniel piled on to Michael's great debt.
Brain like a spinning top, hitting door after door.
He ticked like a clock, but spun more and more.
His porter left forever, left three children and a wife.
After time, he started to court her and took over his friend's old life.
He wrote for almost nothing, and Tetty did all the work,
so feeling guilty, he packed up and left
and lived with his new found friend, sleeping in taverns or not at all.
And he wrote a book about the Savage life.
He wrote every word in just nine years.
